Yes, as you will gather as the result of these lines from Shakespeare’s “Scottish Play” we are in true Witch Country in the heart of Lancashire and at the heart of the story of the notorious Pendle Witches which in 1612 resulted in the hanging of 10 men and women at Lancaster Gaol they having been convicted of witchcraft. The trials, however dubious, were not a forgone conclusion but what is without doubt is the fact that this area of Lancashire has a universal appeal and character and set in the centre of this atmospheric setting in the shadow of Pendle Hill you find The Pendle Inn offering truly first class food, drink and en-suite accommodation. You will be spellbound!
When we speak of Lancashire Legends in these parts we do not mean Les Dawson and Gracie Fields but the eerie world of witches who believe it or not exist to this day in the form of “Wiccans”, witches who are forbidden to work harmful magic and who do not believe in the devil. Not quite as exciting is it! What is exciting here is the picturesque scenery, the atmosphere created by the Pendle Witches and the hospitality in evidence at the Pendle Inn where as a Free House our bar is superbly stocked with beers, wines and “spirits!” There is also a startling choice of food ranging from delicious sandwiches to an extensive home cooked menu including local dishes. Obviously children are drawn to this region and with eyes like “sorcerers” they wonder not just at the stories which persist through the centuries but at the special children’s portions on offer to them at the Pendle Inn.
Many people both young and old find that they are not able to do justice to the region with just a day visit and so for extended periods of one night or many more, we have delightful en-suite cottages available with colour television central heating and beverage making facilities.
With all this on offer we feel sure that every member of the family will enjoy a fascinating fun visit to the Pendle Inn and that it will prove to be, well.......magical!
